There can be various reasons that a woman is unable to conceive - the main ones are:
Endometriosis - The uterine lining that sheds with each monthly period grows outside the uterus.
Ovulation Issues - Mainly hormonal issues that prevents the release of a mature egg from an ovary.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) - Where the ovaries develop many small cysts instead of ripening and maturing one egg each cycle.
Physical Blockages - Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes prevent eggs from getting to the uterus and sperm from getting to the egg.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) - Inflammation of the reproductive organs.
Hostile cervical mucus - Mucus which impedes the natural progression of sperm within the cervical canal.
Other: Unexplained infertility.
Holistically speaking it is believed that there is rarely one issue that is soley responsible for infertility.
"It is almost always a mistake to look for a single cause to a problem or an imbalance or an illness. Not only is it usually wrong to think of 'one illness one cause', but it is also invariably insufficient to use one therapy or one health maintenance plan. Carefully co-ordinated combinations of treatment are key. Once you learn how to use combinations the effects can be magnificent." Dr R.G. Petty 2007.
Hypnotherapy is a mind-body medicine which addresses the whole person in order that a state for optimum fertility is created. Fertility may be increased by enhancing relaxation, resolving issues which prevent conception and creating positive physical, mental and emotional changes. The effects of infertility will be addressed which means you can start to feel good about yourself regardless of the outcome.
A common reason that women choose to see a hypnotherapist is because they 'want to get pregnant'. Although, of course this is the ultimate intention for seeking therapy, hypnotherapy gives no guarantees that treatment will end in conception. Individual goals will be discussed in the first appointment - but the overall aim of hypnotherapy is to help put a woman into to a fertile state - thus maximising her chances of conception.
It is important to recognise from the outset that pregnancy is a miracle of nature and remains out of our hands. This approach removes the counterproductive pressure associated with 'getting pregnant' and allows for positive focus. Hypnotherapy can help you to prepare and accept - no matter how your conception journey unfolds.
What Is The Fertile Body Method?
"The Fertile Body Method is a mind body approach to fertility which acknowledges the importance of working with fertility problems in a holistic way.
Hypnosis is potentially a very powerful and effective therapeutic tool and is used in many of the techniques and approaches suggested in the Fertile Body Method. Hypnosis is a trance state induced through focusing attention on any current internal or external sensory experience; hypnotherapy is the art of utilising this state of absorption to facilitate inner change, which can positively impact on physical wellbeing and fertility." I am a qualified Fertile Body Method Practitioner working with women who are facing challenges with conception. Each session will be different for each woman depending on her background and circumstances, but generally speaking FBM sessions look to support the client by: setting goals for creating a fertile state, creating balance, resolving underlying issues, enhancing fertility and preparing for the future.
Dr Muir speaking on the issue of infertility said "Hypnotherapy is particularly successful in the area of fertility it enables us to access sub-conscious issues, which might be related to fertility. Very often an individual is not aware of those issues. With the skilled use of hypnotherapy a subject is helped to elicit her own individual ability to resolve her specific issues of fertility."
